The Grand Marais Playhouse is holding auditions for the upcoming live stream production of “The Remarkable Susan” by Tim Kelly.

The scene of the play is an upstate New York courtroom. Susan B. Anthony is on trial for the crime of casting a ballot. Tempers flare, animosities run high, and insults are traded as the fiery defendant challenges the ruling of the court - determined to resist bigotry and injustice. While her trial was basically a sham, she storms and pleads and lectures, and skillfully turns defeat into victory- sounding a call for human dignity which inevitably awakened the conscience of the nation. Auditions are open to high school to adult. There are roles for 10 women and 6 men ( or all women), some double casting may occur.

To audition, your must register with the Playhouse to receive an upload link, or schedule a zoom or FaceTime audition. To audition, you should perform a scene from a play. No longer than  2 minutes. Audition material does not need to be from this play but should be a dramatic reading. No comedy or music.

Scripts are available to check out at the Playhouse by appointment. This is a short play. 

Rehearsals will be both remote and in person. Rehearsals will be held Monday - Thursday evenings 7-8:30 pm beginning September 21. Two live stream performances will take place on October 26 and 27.

The Playhouse strictly follows CDC guidelines. Face masks, physical distancing are mandatory. Sanitizer is provided. A full safety policy will be distributed to company upon casting.
